Apple has just released FaceTime, an application that offers communication between Macs and the iOS devices. The application is configured to “place” and “receive” calls by using an email address on the Mac side. The iOS devices can be email or phone number based depending on iPod Touch or iPhone. On the Mac, if you are analyzing, you will find these files interesting to examine for data:
- ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.FaceTime/cache.db
- ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.FaceTime.plist
- “ConfigurationDownloadDate” appears to correlate the last time the user signed in (not launched) FaceTime
- “LastSignedInID is the email address last signed in with
- ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.imservice.FaceTime.plist
- contains account information and configuration information
More to come as we break down FaceTime and as Apple releases more updates to the application.
